New York homeowners sue title insurance companies

First American Corp., Fidelity National Title Insurance Co., Houston-based Stewart Title Insurance Co. and 11 other insurance companies were sued by New House Of York householders over claims they fixed prices.

The coverage companies fixed terms of statute title insurance sold in New House Of York at rates 67 percentage higher than the national average, according to a social class action ailment filed this month. The Title Insurance Rates Service Association, or TIRSA, a grouping of state statute title insurers, mathematical functions as a cartel, according to the lawsuit.

The complainants are seeing "hundreds of millions" of dollars in damages, which may be tripled under U.S. antimonopoly law. They claimed to have got overpaid for statute title coverage as a consequence of the allegedly inflated prices.
